Every day, 82 million food and drink items are purchased by European consumers from a vending machine. The ‘machine park’ – fieldbase in vending jargon – counts more than 4.00 million machines. 

As much as 80% of the machines are operated in 6 leading markets (the “Big Six”), namely Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Of the machines, 60% are hot drinks machines, 19% are traditional cold drinks machines and 21% are glass-front machines, selling both drinks and snacks.

The total number of items sold through vending machines was 32 billion units, of which 24 billion items were dispensed in the Big Six.
